a bit of history
why the name "slacks"?
Slack's Oyster House & Grill" honors Plainville's early nickname, "Slackville," named after wealthy landowner Benjamin Slack. Settled in 1661, Plainville was initially part of Dedham, then Wrentham (1673), becoming an official town in 1856 after a post office opened. The name reflects the area's abundant plains.
Bordering North Attleboro, Plainville shares the historic Angle Tree Stone, marking the boundary between Massachusetts Bay and Plymouth Bay Colonies—a symbol featured on the town seal.
